Foreign Policy – subject of debate at New Europe College

National Defense College Foundation attended the “Germany and Romania – politic security partners in NATO” Conference. The event was held on July 2nd 2015 at the New Europe College in Bucharest and was attended by Bogdan AURESCU, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Jasper WIECK, Head of Defense and Security Policy of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Germany. Moderator of the debate was Mr. Emil HUREZEANU, designated ambassador in the Federal Republic of Germany.

“The event is part of a debate series on the theme of foreign policy which New Europe College will host in the following months”, Andrei PLESU, founder of New Europe College said at the opening where numerous representatives of the civil society and diplomatic field from Romania and abroad attended.

In 2015, Germany celebrates 60 years since the country became a NATO member: “For Germany, as well as for Romania, to be a NATO member means to be a central pillar of security and defense policy […], an important constant of foreign policy and a historical achievement” declared the German officials. Furthermore, 2015 marks the anniversary of 135 years of Romanian-German relations and also 25 years since the reunification of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The main themes addressed at the event were the challenges faced by NATO in 2015 and with what expectations are preparing both NATO and the two Member States, Romania and Germany for the 2016 Summit.
