Scientific Session Suceava:

“June 1940 – When the right of force prevails”
National Defense College Foundation organized between 26-28 June, together with Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava, the Scientific Communication Session “June 1940 – When the right of force prevails”.
The event took place in Suceava and was attended by personalities activating in academia, such as Gl.mr.(r.) Dr. Univ. Prof. Mihail VASILE-OZUNU, National Defense College Director, Dr. Univ. Prof. Gheorghe ONISORU, Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava, Dr. Univ. Prof. Stefan PURICI, Bucovina Institute of Romanian Academy or Col.(r) Dr. Univ. Prof. Ion GIURCA, representing the National Defense University „Carol I” from Bucharest.
The works presented at the Conference focused upon important topics such as “Romania in June 1940. Internal political bankruptcy and international isolation”, “Annexing the Northern part of Bucovina and Herta Land by URSS” or “The military action of Romania in the context of handing over Basarabia and a northern part of Bucovina in 1940” – aspects of the Soviet ultimatum regarding Basarbia and Northern Bucovina, which put a mark on Romanian history, a country which, presently, benefits from “the strongest security umbrella in the history”, as the speakers said in the context of Romania being a NATO member.
It should be noted that 75 years ago, the Romanian government was acting on the soviet ultimatums from 26 and 27 June, asking to “give up Basarabia at any price” and northern Bucovina. Thus, on June 28, 1940, Soviet troops marched on Romanian territory.
